The history
The Fratelli Mattioli - Moleno, a general partnership, was established in the distant year of 1962 by brothers Giuliano and Renzo Mattioli.
Both brothers had graduated as stonemasons and, aware of their skills, embarked on starting their own business.
Initially, Fratelli Mattioli was located in the village of Prosito, up high.
The mountain served as the quarry from which raw material was extracted.
At the foot of the same mountain was a small workshop. It consisted of a couple of sheds for working the stone and a building used as a forge: at that time, the tools worn out from use had to be repaired to bring them back to life.
The two brothers began extracting the first blocks of raw stone and working them to obtain products mainly intended for the construction of road and building structures.
The technology at the time was quite rudimentary. Processing was mainly done by hand or with the use of some simple machines.
The products were appreciated by their clientele, and so the company was able to hire some workers and take on a more industrial form without losing the value of craftsmanship.
With the increase in work, the desire to expand arose. In 1971, Giuliano and Renzo purchased land in the countryside in Prosito.
Here, they established their new workshop, gradually expanding it over time to reach its present form. This new location was much more spacious than the previous workshop and was suitable for the installation of new machinery.
As the demand for raw material increased significantly, the brothers decided to open two more small quarries in the area.
Over the years, the less-than-exceptional quality of the raw material led to the end of extraction in the three small quarries.
Brothers Giuliano and Renzo then decided to permanently cease extraction activities and focus solely on the processing of blocks.
Blocks of indigenous material were purchased from quarries in the area.
Over time, the company evolved in the market: from a high production mostly oriented towards roads, there was a shift to giving more space to building works.
From road borders and curbstones, attention gradually shifted to a wide range of products: steps, thresholds, sills, covers, cladding, kitchen countertops, fireplaces, monuments, columns.
Not forgetting all the necessities for the garden: tables, pergolas, fountains, fence posts, grills, and flooring.
In 1998, Giuliano's son, Giorgio Mattioli, joined the team. Giorgio, a Technical Specialist, brought technological and computer improvements.
During the year 2018, Giorgio took over his father Giuliano's position in the general partnership.
Then came the year 2022, and after the passing of Renzo, Giorgio continued the business.
Now, the new company is called Fratelli Mattioli di Giorgio Mattioli, a sole proprietorship, located in Prosito.
